I could start off like Ted Baxter (Mary Tyler Moore Show News Anchor)... "...it all started in a small 5,000 watt radio station, blah blah blah."
The truth of the matter is, I did start at a 5,000 watt radio station, right here in Boston, WRYT, now WROL, where I was a staff announcer and board op. I produced the Sherm Feller Show and did other sundry things. I eventually moved on to several area radio stations...WCCM, Lawrence, Ma., WJDA, Quincy, WESX, Salem, WDLW, Waltham, WGTR, Natick, WLKW, Providence, and in 1982, was hired by Metro Traffic Control. A little over a year later, I subbed for somebody in the helicopter, where I stayed for the next fifteen years reporting multiple stations. Sometimes, I couldn't chase myself around the dial fast enough. I eventually did come back down to earth. I returned to the Metro studios where my feet thawed out and I could take off my coat and report traffic in the comfort of a heated studio. That's what I've been doing ever since and very proud and honored to be part of the Frank FM family. I originally wanted to be a jazz pianist, but decided I wasn't good enough and decided to become a radio disk jockey and play somebody else's music on the radio, far better than my own. I eventually faced the reality, again, that there wasn't much call for jazz dj's, so I went into news, and subsequently traffic. As things can come full circle, I am taking piano lessons, once again, and am still not ready for prime time...probably never will be, but having fun doing it, now.
